In 2023, Moroccan jewellery designer Dounia Lahlou founded Zei Jewels, a Dubai-born brand for which both innovation and craftsmanship are equally important. Lahlou grew up surrounded by jewellery. “My mother built her career in it, so it was always a part of my world from a very early age. But I wanted to find my own path first,” she says. After studying visual communication, she moved to Milan, where she refined her eye for form and detail through interior and luxury product design. With the launch of Zei, Lahlou brought a multidisciplinary perspective to fine jewellery through modular and transformable pieces designed to evolve with the woman wearing them. “I design for people who want that feeling of imagination, but in a way that still feels natural,”
she shares. Drawing inspiration from surreal worlds such as celestial elements, the depths of the sea and enchanted forests, her work reflects the philosophy she has built her practice around – a place where the extraordinary meets the regular.
